One Kingdom, Many Nations
A Biblical Case Against Political Uniformity The world is populated by enduring peoples possessing their own cultures, histories, languages, religions, territories and collective identities. These distinctions are not temporary defects in the human condition that will disappear once enough nations become modern, democratic, technologically advanced or economically integrated.
On Radical Depravity and Human Nature
In 1618-1619 in the Dutch town of Dordrecht (English, Dordt), an important event took place in the history of the Church. A Synod was held to settle the concerns of a former professor, Jacobus Arminius (Oct. 10, 1560 – Oct. 19, 1609). His teachings would give rise to Arminianism. Following the death of Arminius, his

Preach Sermons, Not Commentaries
The heart of man is a fortress without a drawbridge. It is so hard and impregnable that it takes divine weapons and skilled soldiers to regularly invade it with the truth. Weekly, men equipped by the Spirit of God urge the dead to live and the sorely tempted to flee to Christ, to cling to Christ, firing God’s very words at their souls to save them. Men are dying; the saints are tempted and weary; has God spoken or not? He has indeed, and men preach sermons proclaiming those words.

A Taste of The Theology and Theologians of Scotland
The Scottish Church, or Kirk, has been blessed with an abundance of theologically-minded pastors and pastorally-gifted theologians in the centuries since the Reformation. Without a survey of these men and their works, however, it can be difficult to know where to start reading. James Walker’s The Theology and Theologians of Scotland can help in this area. The fruit of his 1870–71 Cunningham Lectures on the subject, this is a book which will help the interested reader prize open the treasure chest of Reformed, evangelical Scottish theology.

Which Puritan has been an influence to you lately?
Over the past year God has allowed me to discover the riches of the puritan writings. Although I've always heard of them since coming to Christ, I've never been influenced to read them as heavily as I have since discovering the reformed tradition. Listening to Joel Beeke, Mark Dever, John Piper and Iain Murray often reference the Puritans kept me ever-searching for other puritan guys. As of late Thomas Watson has been a favorite of mine. Which Puritan has been of much influence lately for you?
The Most Ideal Form of Church Government
From the studying I have done in the past, though I am a Presbyterian, I will admit that trying to understand Church government simply using the Bible is very muddy stuff. I was just looking into Congregationalism and I think there is a lot that’s appealing there and a lot of Biblical
Techniques for Overcoming Anger
Christians do not have to be controlled by anger. We can use anger to effectually change ourself and others. Anger is a choice. James warns, “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of
Dogmatists Against Dogma
The following excerpt is from James Walker’s The Theology and Theologians of Scotland, which we have just typeset and republished in a clothbound edition. Walker is here responding to the criticism of Scottish Christianity which faults it for being too doctrinal: Then, again, I think the idea has taken possession of many in our day, that Scotch
